Good case in hand. Role Playing is, traditionally, a very geeky past
time.

I'd suggest several reasons  (none of which are necessarily correct):

* there's a level of detail, finickityness and dedication needed that is
similar to that needed by programmers.

* geeky people tend to be read lots of science fiction which provides a
lot of the prerequisite memes and background and also indicates a
willingness/desire to escape from the comparatively mundane Real World
[tm]

* you get to do all this sort of escapist life hackery stuff which could
very well, again, be a geek trait.


Or I could be speaking out of my arse.
