Hoppin' John - popular down South way in that there America apparently.

although I've seen simpler recipes around than that one.

The ever popular Chinese $ingredient with peppers and black beans is
always popular.

The Portugese (or is it Spanish? Rocio?) do black bean and chorizo soup,
sometimes with Kale in it.

Otherwise our good friends from Mexico seem to have a way with the
habas negras.
