Perhaps.  It's a pretty perfect medium for growing bugs, I would think.  
Beer making requires similar precautions.  My thoughts on this come from 
an episode of Good Eats I watched a while back, where he prepared a 
cooler with crushed ice for rapid cooling of stock.

But that said, I don't go to extremes and have never had a problem.
